I really enjoy thinking about object permanence. I learned in
college that this is the psychological ability acquired at a young age
to recognize that just because an object moves behind another object,
it does not suddenly cease to exist. This could be comforting or scary,
depending on the object and how you, er, look at it. But the point is
that things have meaning and momentum and influence and relationships
that go much deeper than what we can see. As well, out of sight and
out of mind doesn't necessarily mean that the storm isn't affecting
you.
